Each week on indeqx, we feature one of our community listings, to find out more about why they do what they do. This week, we talk to…

Pride in Law

Brisbane-based Pride in Law is one of the first organisations of its kind in Australia. We spoke to Dean Clifford-Jones, President of Pride in Law, to hear about how the association came to be and what exciting things are planned for the future.

What does your organisation do?

We are a not-for-profit LGBTIQ+ legal networking association based in Brisbane. We are Australia’s first independent legal networking association designed to bring together the LGBTIQ+ legal profession across multiple disciplines.

How did your organisation start?

Pride in Law started and continues as a not-for-profit legal networking association for the LGBTIQ+ community and allies.

What does a person need to do to get involved with your organisation?

To become a member of Pride in Law complete the online payment form below. You will be asked to enter your annual subscription fee. After completing your details, an email will be sent to you from Pride in Law confirming your registration – https://prideinlaw.org/membership

How does your organisation contribute to the LGBTIQA+ communities?

Pride in Law is a non-political group, aimed at linking the LGBTIQ+ legal community and their allies. Pride in Law is not exclusive to any single area of legal discipline, which will co-ordinate monthly lawyer-to-lawyer meetings. In addition, Pride in Law holds larger social networking events throughout the year.

What are any exciting things happening in the future for your organisation?

  • Coordinate monthly lawyer-to-lawyer social networking meetings.
  • Collaborate with a wide range of lawyers across multiple disciplines to confront pressing issues involving the LGBTIQ+ community and their allies.
  • Organise scholarly forums to engage lawyers and their allies in current LGBTIQ+ legal debates through social networking events.

Thanks to Dean for answering our questions, and to Pride in Law for the work that they do for the LGBTIQA+ communities.
