The law in relation to transgender adolescents seeking hormone treatment recently changed following the decision of the Full Court of the Family Court in Re: Kelvin. This decision means that families no longer need to go to court to access stage 2 treatment, provided that both parents and the medical professionals agree that treatment is in the child’s best interests.
It is our position that, where an adolescent has received medical advice that stage 2 hormone treatment is necessary, the cost of legal services should not be a barrier. Therefore, our service will remain open for people who may still need legal help.
